Genovese Joblove & Battista, P.A. Has Expanded Its Bankruptcy and Litigation Practice Group
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – February 12, 2008 – Genovese Joblove & Battista, P.A. is pleased to announce the expansion of its Fort Lauderdale insolvency practice through the acquisition of a five lawyer practice, headed by partner Bart Houston.

Mariaelena Gayo-Guitian specializes in all areas of bankruptcy, business reorganization, and creditors’ rights. Ms. Gayo-Guitian has handled numerous Chapter 11 reorganizations and liquidations on behalf of debtors, creditors, committees and trustees. Ms. Gayo-Guitian also has experience and expertise in handling adversary matters involving objections to discharge, dischargeability of debts, fraudulent transfers, preferences and related bankruptcy litigation. Additionally, Ms. Gayo-Guitian has represented trustees and creditors in bankruptcy cases under Chapters 7 and 13. She also specializes in the representation of both assignors and assignees in assignment for the benefit of creditors’ in State Court proceedings. She earned her Juris Doctor Degree in 1988 from the University of Miami School of Law and her Bachelors in Business Administration and Political Science from the University of Miami graduating cum laude in 1985.
Barry P. Gruher specializes in the areas of bankruptcy and commercial litigation in state and federal district courts, assignments for the benefit of creditors, business reorganization, creditor workouts and creditors/debtor rights. Mr. Gruher has experience in representing debtors, creditors and trustees in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 bankruptcy cases. Mr. Gruher has extensive experience in representing debtors, creditors and trustees in adversary proceedings involving objections to discharge, dischargeability of debts, fraudulent transfers, preferences and related bankruptcy litigation. In addition, his practice also focuses on appeals, general corporate, real estate and transactional matters. Mr. Gruher earned his Juris Doctor Degree in 1992 from the University of Miami School of Law and Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Sciences Degree from the University of Florida in 1988.

Bart A. Houston concentrates his practice on complex commercial matters, including out of court restructuring and workouts, commercial litigation in state and federal courts and Chapter 11 reorganization cases. For the first 15 years of his practice, Mr. Houston exclusively represented Debtors in Chapter 11 reorganization cases and in complex Chapter 7 cases. Since 2002, Mr. Houston’s practice has expanded to include more complex insolvency related litigation in bankruptcy cases in contested and adversary matters on behalf of Debtors, creditors committees, and trustees; purchasers of assets and other interested parties; and fraudulent transfer and preference litigation; and in commercial litigation cases in federal and state court with a concentration on real estate disputes. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Mercer University School of Law in 1986 and a Bachelors degree in Political Science from Mercer University in 1983.

Jessica L. Kaufman concentrates her practice in the areas of business and bankruptcy litigation, including but not limited to, real estate litigation in state and federal courts and contested proceedings in bankruptcy court. Ms. Kaufman is a member of the Broward County Bar Association, the Bankruptcy Bar Association of the Southern District of Florida and the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC). She received her Juris Doctor degree from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center in 2002 and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo in 1999 in Management Finance.
David A. Ray practices in the area of bankruptcy and commercial litigation. Mr. Ray an active member of the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the Southern District of Florida. He is a member of the Florida Bar and admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He received his Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center in 2005 and earned his Master of Science in psychology and counseling from Florida State University in 1999.
